Be Present  - 03/02/26

“Don’t you see how much you have to offer? And yet you settle for less.” - Marcus Aurelius. So often we are looking forward into what could be, or into the past at what was. We lost our focus of the now. We lose sight of the things that allow us to shine the brightest. The things that allow us to grow and connect with people. So many of us are looking for that next thing, the new job, new house or car, or the next vacation. All of that takes away from the joy and opportunity we have now. Always reaching forward doesn’t always necessarily move us forward. Find the appreciation for the things we have now. Everyone is capable of living the life they want. It doesn’t just happen by wanting. It comes by being present in the now, gratitude towards the good and the bad, and the humility to say that you’re in the process of growth. Everyday we have ideas pushed onto us from so many sources. Those ideas can take away from the voice that’s deep inside us that guides us to where we’re meant to be.

The outside world is loud. It tells who we should be, what we should wear, how we should measure our own success. There is a certain level of courage and strength that is required to turn down the volume on the world around us. To sit alone with your thoughts. To question the projections of the world, and the goals we pursue and if they’re born of authenticity or imitation. Marcus Aurelius talks about withdrawing into his own mind, not to ignore the world, but to regain clarity within it. Going inward starts the shift, decisions become simpler. Comparison loses its grip on our minds. It’s not that we won’t stumble, we will. It’s living a life that’s fueled by everything external that we forget the voice that helps guide us exists.

The life we long for isn’t waiting somewhere ahead of us. It’s being shaped by the small choices we make today. In what we give out attention to, in what we choose to value. To be present is to reclaim your power. When we learn to stand firmly in the now, guided by our own conviction rather than comparison, we stop settling. And in doing so, we begin to offer the world the most authentic version of ourselves.

“Do not let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present” - Seneca.
